DERIDA Stage April program

Here is what awaits you at DERIDA Stage!

After a period of silence, DERIDA Company returns with the forthcoming opening of the new location of DERIDA Stage and the physical theatre MISS JULIE on 19 April from 19:00 h, 32 Tsar Samuil Str.

The new location of DERIDA Stage is with the capacity of 100 sitting places, a stage with dimensions 10 X 10 meters, professional dance floor, light, and sound. This specification of the space gives the opportunity not only to program miscellaneous content but also makes the new stage of Sofia recognizable as the few spaces in worldwide contexts that offer excellent conditions without having government or other institutional funding.

“Miss Julie" is a physical performance, a dissection of the image of the eponymous Strindberg’s play. Breaking internal dialogue between the essence and the model, the inborn and acquired in the constant searching for the possibility of existence.

Тhe performance got the IKAR 2017 Award for best performance in the "Contemporary dance and performance" category.

S INNER focuses on the existing archaic practice of people extracting resources with no regard for the pain and suffering they cause. New technologies force us to reconsider our practices and actions, allowing us to look beyond our vanity so important for our daily lives. This performance challenges our thinking and urges us to take a stance without imposing religious rules or norms.

COLD by ATOM THEATER is one of the three dance-theater projects that have won the Tri3avisim 2017 competition-  a Contemporary Performing Arts Guild initiative.

The project was created based on stories of survivors from the concentration camps in Bulgaria during the 20th century.

COLD is a work that addresses the theme of alienation, loneliness, and cruelty, focusing on the man and his essence. The bodies and theirs, as if broken integrity, are driven by memories, dreams, and stories - ripped away from people who have been excommunicated from society in time. Today, they have survived and tell stories of fear, hatred, anger, but also of the desire to survive - defiantly, to endure, to save oneself, to save others, to get home. Cold examines the curves of the soul, the darkness, the silhouette, penetrates deeply and causes the spirit to come out of the body. The dancers pulsate, conquer space, build images, share emotions, and overcome fears.

Choreographer: Stefaniya Georgieva

Music environment:  Dobromir Kisyov and Konstantin Kuchev

Performance: Kalina Georgieva, Dorina Puncheva, Bratan Bratanov, Nedelya Gancheva, Radoslav Yordanov, Plamena Pencheva, Tsveta Doycheva

Good death. Not a paradox, but an act of humanity. Freedom is a matter of choice, that has not been given to me. Is my body really mine if I haven`t been given the rights over it. Without the right to death, the right to life is hypocritical. Civilized silence...

Idea and choreography: Marion Darova

Sound environment: Alexander Evtimov - The Shaman

Performance: Tsveta Doycheva, Vasilia Drebova, and Bratan Bratanov

Design: Polina Stoyanova
