Yana Yaneva’s Interview with Stefan NIkolov, Jazz dance, Floor barre and Flamenco instructor in the amateur classes at Derida Dance Center
People who believe in reincarnation of the soul claim that everyone brings something special with themselves in all their lives. Others believe that the destiny of a person is just predetermined, there are also those who limit themselves with the thought "one can not escape from what is". Stefan Nikolov is one of the examples that not only proves these allegations, but also makes us ask ourselves "Is it really necessary to try to run away, or should we just grab what we are given and embrace it with love instead?" Although he fell in love with dance as a young boy,, Stefan started to dance actively at a much later stage of his life, and his dedication made him one of the most remarkable multi-style artists in Bulgaria.
.

What is your dance story? What was that first moment when you thought “I want to dance”?
My first contact with dance was when I was 4 years old, I saw on TV part of a perfomance of Michael Flаtley's. 12 years later I watched him again, and it was then that I actually remembered that I wanted to be a dancer since I was 4. I started learning by myself, watching videos on the internet and gradually this hobby became a way of life for me. What I felt then and still do is INSPIRATION. With time passing only my perception of this inspiration changed - from ambitions and goals to idea of Мinistry, an idea of a path of Spirit and Flame, because the artistt lives not from the privilege to be valued, but from his inspiration. In this sense, my dance is a grateful hymn to the generosity of the Heavens.
Do you think that the person you are in the dance studio as an instructor is different somehow from the person you are outside the studio?
Absolutely not...
What do you think is important for your students to know? What would you want them to remember from you?
That the most important thing is to love themselves.
How would you describe your dance life?
Dance in my life is a miracle, and “a miracle is an act of God done in front of a person” as the wise man Vaкlush Tolev says.
What part of yourself would you like to leave in your students?
Inspiration. It is inspiration that is the space where the causa sui exists or the reason for itself, where you have a higher consciousness, fire...where our presence is spiritual.

What to you receive from your students? What is it they give you as a person, not a professional?
Love, happiness….mostly with their successes in all aspects - physical, emotional, spiritual...this is not something I require from them but it’s definitely something that I feel happy about.
What is the most unbelievable experience you’ve had connected with dance?
To have the honor to be a student of Benjamin Feliksdal and Walid Aouni (scenographer of Maurice Bejart)
