The project “Rivers of Europe” is being completed by cultural organizations from 8 different European countries. It is financed by Culture Program 2007 – 2013 of the European Commission. The project includes the creation of a multi-genre performance in the field of contemporary dance, visual arts and music that explores the role of the European rivers in the cultural and historical development of the Old continent.
Derida Dance Center is the project partner responsible for the production of the contemporary dance part of the performance that will be presented on a ship and on dry land in 31 European cities, 11 countries in August and September 2014.
Michał Adam Góral was born in Kutno, Poland in 1990 .
Began to dance at age of 16 with Teatr Tańca Test.
He graduated in 2013 from Rotterdam Dance Academy - Codarts.
During his education he had the opportunity to dance in the performances of choreographers such as Bill T. Jones, Jiří Kylián, Martha Graham, Giulia Mureddu, Jan Linkens, Lucas Jervies, Ivanhoe Chun-ho Lam, Thom Stuart, Gavin Viano Fabri. He also collaborated with fashion designer and architect Henrik Vibskov during his installation Body Building.
Before RIVE Michał has performed with International Dance Theatre in Amsterdam and Korzo Productions for CaDance Festival in Den Haag .

How do you feel to be part of a project that had 5 auditions in 5 different cities?
I didn’t expected anything out of the audition, I was already happy to be invited. These days it’s hard to get accepted in an audition. It didn’t feel like we were at a competition, it felt more like dancing with each other. So I was happy to be part of the workshop. I was surprised when I got in.
Do you feel connected with the other artists in the project - the dancers and the musicians?
We are lucky that we understand each other. We all have our own qualities, favorite movements, we came from different schools, so we are directed toward different techniques. But at the end of the day we aim to be together and to get into the movement language of Jivko. With the dancers we communicate, so our work is easy. And we are moving very fast, we were very productive in the very first days. That shows that we manage to work well with each other.
The musicians are very helpful, because we base a lot of things on music, so they are important part of the creation. I’m glad that we rehearse together.
How do you perceive the river as a means to communication? Does it unite you?
Rivers of Europe is great because it brings so different types of art together and makes us create together. The whole process is flexible like water. Through the years the rivers were the main way to communicate. In this big project it’s quite impressive that many people can manage to be here and to work together. First of all is the communication that could be hard. To get to the point where we are in the same room and work on the same thing is amazing, it’s creating а vibe that inspires us.
What is the biggest challenge for you during the work?
The biggest challenge for me is getting into the way of moving of Jivko. I’m more fluid, I go with the flow and he uses a lot of isolation, he divides the different body parts. But it’s always good to be challenged. We are growing with the conceptions and the ideas.
How do you perceive the idea of the project?
The concept gives us some frames with our work. Although we are thinking of it all the time, it comes back and we are redeveloping it. So it’s not a set thing, but it’s a starting point for us to create and to go further with our ideas. In the end we are growing with our ideas and the project as well.
How do you find Sofia?
Sofia is very interesting. You can really distinguish some parts, just by their looks. The center is nice and clean, but the suburbs are abandoned. It’s a complicated city, it has a lot of life, people, ethnicities, tourists.
