At the end of the residency, a presentation open to the public will happen.
Derida Dance Center team selected the artists for its residency program through a competitive application process to provide and develop contemporary dances quality and sustainability.
Marion Alzieu is a French choreographer and contemporary dance performer. Very young Marion becomes passionate about dance in any form and shape. She begins with hip-hop and ballet, then studies modern dance and later discovers contemporary dance. She has received qualification and training in several schools and dance companies in France and UK. In the artistic work Marion derived inspiration and knowledge also from foreign artists, among which are several African choreographers. Alongside her status as a performer, she develops her own style as a choreographer.
‘’I prefer physical rather than theatrical dances. Pure movement is at the root of my research. In each movement, I want to find my own signature and the way to achieve it, to get to an original and personal universe.’’ Marion Alzieu
In the choreographic field she enters together with the musician and composer Michael Avron. His creative work is strongly influenced by his multifaceted experience - African, Western and Caribbean music.
Three more foreign residencies will happen in Derida Dance Center this autumn. Since 2010 the center has hosted many artists from all over the world.
As a result, in 2014 Derida Dance Center Residency Program was recognized by experts of the European Commission in Brussels as the best practice for exchange of artistic experience on the Old continent together with examples from Ireland and Finland.
Derida Dance Center Residency Program is being realized with the financial support of Sofia Municipality.
