IKAR 2017 for Derida Company’s performance “S INNER”- contemporary dance and performance category
This year the Union of Bulgarian Actors (UBA) awarded “S INNER”- a performance by Derida company, with IKAR for contemporary dance and performance. The remarked choreographer Jivko Jeliazkov has been nominated in the previous years for the performances “Silent Weapon” and “ARTeFACT”. “S INNER” was chosen among the physical verbatim “Ion” (by Stephanie Hadhziiska) and the performative installation “Rotor” (by Venelin Shurelov).
The awarded performance suggests a reason to think one more time about the consumerist ideology that rules the modern society. The social commitment is a very important aspect for the production-the leather we see as an accessory to human clothing represents a behavior mark through which we rationalize our role in society.
By memorable imagery and strongly affective symbiosis between sound (by Ivan Shopov) and choreography Jivko Jeliazkov constructs a hybrid stage code that creates an image for the “sinner”. We don’t actually see the sinner on stage, but we do feel a synthesis of fetish, stereotype and lust that provokes each and every one of us.
