“Derida Dance Center Residency Program” is one of the fundamental and successful programs, that the organization has been developing since 2010.

Its main objective is to help choreographers from Bulgaria and abroad in creating their dance performances by using Derida Dance Center resources.

Despite the situation, we kept on working on its realization and we are ready to announce with great pleasure the three international choreographers that would be visiting us in 2020!

“Derida Dance Center Residency Program” is part of the Calendar of cultural events of Sofia Municipality 2020

Barbara Bardaka would be working alongside with Ioulia Zacharaki on Amfi. During their residency, they would explore the path of interaction in the process of creating a duet. Their aim is to create by using common instruments as materials and space, but seeking a different result, staying faithful to the need for a personal creative process.

Barbara and Ioulia search to provoke emotions, emerging from the juxtaposition of the two solo works in a hybrid duet, where the image of two people coexist on the same stage, in two parallel dimensions. In short, they are interested in understanding what is the connection in not having a connection?

During his residency, Michael Getman, along with Eldad Ben-Sasson, will rework his performance "Face to Face", which is performed to the distorted sound of Beethoven's piano sonata and Herald Rubin's political text. Using very personal performance language, together with Eldad Ben-Sasson, they create a subtle, albeit sometimes violent, a choreographic study of the issue of intimacy in conflict. Michael responds to the tension and interaction between art and war, between sounds and images, between love and hate.

Given the cultural and personal experience of the concept of "war inside", a complex and humorous journey develops on the stage, dealing with different understandings of who the victim is. Where does one place the line between individuals? How close can we be to the other? What do we want from the other? And if the other is our close Brother !? The desire to fall in love? To lose control? To accept passion? Or to control ourselves ?!

Joanna Cuto will work on her solo project UNDOSE together with playwright Leonardo Calvino and set designer Beatrice Sarmento. In her research, she will go back to the beginning and reflect on change. The concepts of the "representative", the "sentimental", the "beautiful" and the "lyrical" will be questioned. Lyrics.

The word fits her in two different ways. She wants to travel through time and ask not only as an artist, but also as a spectator, what is the interference of verbal lyrics in the work process and the final product. How desirable is it, how important is it, how immediate is it in the process of retelling a story, how is it sought by the observer, how is it supported by the institutions?
