Mihaela Griveva again in Derida Dance Center - this time with Beyond Technique Workshop

Mihaela Griveva makes her visits to Derida Dance Center a nice tradition. This time she will lead a Beyond Technique Workshop during the week 5-9 January. The workshop’s purpose is to support advanced and professional dancers in regulating stage tension, evaluating the appropriateness of movement for their bodies and needs, reaching the zone of maximum effectiveness and build confidence in them for presentation.
Mihaela is a gradiate of The Irish World Academy of Music and Dance.In the past few years she has been fortunate to learn from some of the most influential artists in the contemporary dance world. Encounters with Ohad Naharin, Martin Kilvadi, Keren Rosenberg, Russel Maliphant and David Zambrano have expanded her ability, curiosity and desire to create.

Derida Dance Center hosts the American choreographer Sidra Bell for a three-week project with Dance PORT Derida participants

In August and beginning of September Sidra Bell –  artistic director of one of the most prominent contemporary dance companies in the U.S. called Sidra Bell Dance New York (SBDNY) is staying in Bulgaria for a three-week project with Derida Dance Center. Part of the program is also the presentation of SBDNY’s work Nudity at One Dance Week Festival.

During the three weeks starting on August 18th Sidra Bell will work with participants from Derida Dance Center’s educational and training program Dance PORT Derida supported by America for Bulgaria Foundation. She will use her methodology Contemporary Systems: an interior & material approach to movement. The result of their work will also be presented at the festival. For the young Bulgarian dancers it is a unique opportunity to be able to collaborate with a renowned artistic director like Sidra Bell as her company is on the forefront of engaging and cultivating the next generation of artists.

CO-LABOR Project - Resume

During the months September – December 2013 Derida Dance Center completed the CO-LABOR project in the field of contemporary dance. Within the frames of the project we hosted five residencies of choreographers from various European countries. Each of them had the opportunity to work on their individual project in the course of three weeks using free space, technical and artistic support by a composer and a video artist. Additional to this, each of the choreographers led a one-week workshop with young Bulgarian dancers under the topic “Share”. Thus they shared part of their experience and presented new approaches for realization of dance ideas and concepts.
