Javier Arozena - the second foreign resident in the frame of "Derida Dance Center Residency Program"2021

der held project Javier

Derida Dance Center Residency Program is one of the fundamental and exceptionally successful programs, which the dance company has been developing since 2010. Its main objective is to support young choreographers from Bulgaria and abroad in the creation of their dance pieces. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, we continued to work and realizing the program and we have the pleasure to present you the second foreign choreographer, selected to visit us in 2021!

Javier Arozena arrived in Sofia on August the 10th, and he will be working on his “Der Held” Project until August 30th, when we would be able to see his working progress. He would be working with Gino Senesi, Horne Horneman, and Derek Pedrós.

The project consists in creating a medium/long format dance piece between 35 and 45 minutes. Based on previous work, “Schwanengesang”, they will deepen in their search for new contemporary narratives by developing their own scenic language and the productive tools for choreographic composition and movement.

Cía. Javier Arozena is the creative tandem of choreographer and performer Javier Arozena and the architect Gino Senesi.

Their process is directly or dialogically linked with choreography, performance, and physical theatre by exploring its relationship with the viewer and investigating ways in which the space of representation is continuously put into crisis. They seek the best support, format, and formula for each piece of work, linking the various disciplines and bringing their proposals out of the conventional stage spaces, looking for a personal scenic code as well as new ways to express and communicate. Among this transversal practice, special relevance is given to the procedural, as well as to the performative act itself. Both being continuous exercises of constructing and deconstructing body and territory. The corporeal is manifested through states of hypersensitivity and observation, in order to extract their capacities to move and give rise to spaces for reflection, landscapes for contemplation, territories of thought.
